Chemistry

In this article, we'll summarize some fundamental concepts that will be helpful as you learn introductory or AP Chemistry. If some of the topics look unfamiliar or you don't remember them anymore, don't worry! We've provided links to help you learn or review the material on Mk Academy as you go. Remember, you can learn anything! Math General skills Properties of exponents  and  properties of logarithms : Being comfortable with using logs and exponents will be helpful for acid and bases, kinetics, and equilibrium. Graphing slope-intercept form : Part of the fun of chemistry is running your own experiments. Once you obtain experimental data, you will need to know how to visualize and interpret the results. Quadratic formula : Knowing how to set-up and solve quadratic equations will come in handy when you learn about chemical equilibrium. Science-specific skills Scientific notation : Since chemists are lazy and don't want to have ...
What should I know before starting biology? If you are curious about biology or plan to study it in the future, you may be wondering what "prerequisites" it has – that is, what other knowledge will give you a solid foundation to learn biology. If so, big kudos for thinking ahead! In my opinion, the only strict prereqs for biology are curiosity, an open mind, and a willingness to think critically about the natural world. If you have those, you can start learning biology without other background, as long as you're willing to pick up bits of chemistry, physics, statistics, and math along the way. That said, you may find your journey through biology smoother and more satisfying if you already have some familiarity with topics in other areas, particularly chemistry. Below are some foundational topics that will help you get the most out of Khan Academy's biology materials (or any biology class). General science skills The scientific method . Are you r...

What is Physics?

What is Physics? Physics This article is about the field of science. For other uses, see Physics (disambiguation). Not to be confused with Physical science.  Various examples of physical phenomena Physics (from Ancient Greek: φυσική (ἐπιστήμη) phusikḗ (epistḗmē) “knowledge of nature”, from φύσις phúsis “nature”[1][2][3]) is the natural science that involves the study of matter[4] and its motion and behavior through space and time, along with related concepts such as energy and force. [5] One of the most fundamental scientific disciplines, the main goal of physics is to understand how the universe behaves.[lower-alpha 1][6][7][8] Physics is one of the oldest academic disciplines, perhaps the oldest through its inclusion of astronomy. [9] Over the last two millennia, physics was a part of natural philosophy along with chemistry, biology, and certain branches of mathematics, but during the scientific revolution in the 17th century, the natural sciences emerged as unique resear...
What is Mathematics? Mathematics  (from  Greek  μάθημα  máthēma , “knowledge, study, learning”) is the study of topics such as  quantity  ( numbers ), [2]   structure , [3]   space , [2]  and  change . [4] [5] [6]  There is a range of views among mathematicians and philosophers as to the exact scope and  definition of mathematics . [7] [8] This is an image of Euclid who is popularly known as the father of Geometry. He has also created the Euclid's Law which we will discuss in further few posts but for now just know that he is a world renowned personality who is often the celebrity of the subject of Mathematics. The history of mathematics can be seen as an everincreasing series of abstractions. The first abstraction, which is shared by many animals,[18] was probably that of numbers: the realization that a collection of two apples and a collection of two oranges (for example) have something in common, namely quantity of...
